Creating .scs files

Postby weirdtrucker » Thu Jul 15, 2010 6:47 am
What?

.SCS files are files that the game uses. Base.scs (in C:\Program Files\Euro Truck Simulator) is a very good example. They are basically .ZIP archives with no compression (ie. store) and with the .SCS extension instead of .ZIP.

Why?

If you don't create .SCS files properly, the game will reject the file. If you don't create an .SCS file at all, the game will obviously not recognise your mod.

When?

You can create .SCS files whenever you like.

Who?

No matter who you are, as long as you have the patience to learn, making .SCS files is not a challenge.

Which?

You can use both WinRAR and WinZIP to make .SCS files. This tutorial uses WinRAR.

How?

You need:

- WinRAR/WinZIP (note that this tutorial uses WinRAR)
- Your mod
- Information on the original file structure in base.scs
- A computer

Step 1:

Find out the original file structure which the file that you edited (ie modded) is from . For example, if you skinned the EuroGoodies skin for the default reefer, the file structure will be vehicle\trailer_eu\reefer as the EuroGoodies skin (eurogoodies.dds) was in those folders and subfolders in Base.SCS.

this tutorial assumes you are skinning a EuroGoodies skin for the default reefer.

Step 2:

Create a folder called "vehicle" (or the original folder where your file(s) that you edited is from.

Step 3:

Repeat step 2 with names of your subfolders (eg. go inside "vehicle" and create a "trailer_eu" folder, of whatever subfolder your mod is in) until you reach the subfolder where the file you edited is in.

Step 4:

Put the file that you edited inside the last folder. (vehicle\trailer_eu\reefer for the reefer skins).

Step 5:

Go to vehicle (or the first folder in which your mod is in).
